Great read! Very suspenseful with a lot of twists and turns。 Ending is not what you expect。

Well。。。 it's a page turner。 I finished it in a day, and partly because there are so many twists and turns。 I was thinking for a long time I'd give it a 3-star review, but the ending sort of sealed it for me, the ending was nailed, and that doesn't always seem to happen。 But there are enough clues along the way that it's not entirely surprising as to what happens。 I only don't understand why Pippa the heroine has to put herself in danger so often! OMG。 I have no words。 This book was amazing。 Beautiful, captivating, mysterious, dark and twisty, heartwarming。 Everything。 This book couldn’t be any better。 Usually in books you can see the ending coming from a mile away, but not in this case。 I was so appalled by the ending。I just wanted to keep reading and reading。 I need the next book right now。 The format of the book was really cool and inventive and the little bit of romance mixed in was perfect。 There were so many different players and se OMG。 I have no words。 This book was amazing。 Beautiful, captivating, mysterious, dark and twisty, heartwarming。 Everything。 This book couldn’t be any better。 Usually in books you can see the ending coming from a mile away, but not in this case。 I was so appalled by the ending。I just wanted to keep reading and reading。 I need the next book right now。 The format of the book was really cool and inventive and the little bit of romance mixed in was perfect。 There were so many different players and seeing how Pip’s mind works was so interesting。I’m usually more into fantasy rather than mystery but I might have to pick up a few more mystery books。 I could not get enough of this book and everyone should read it right now。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Honestly I have no words。 This was an emotional rollercoaster。 I was almost to tears at some parts。 I loved Pippa’s and her dedication to finding out what happened to Andie。 From the get-go, I was a little sus of Ravi。 I was almost certain that he had something to do with the disappearance of Andie and Sal’s death。 But。。。 I was way off。 Ravi was one of my favorite characters, and I loved his relationship with Pippa。 I am so excited to read the second and the third one (when it comes out)!!

I give this 4 stars for the fact that the story kept me guessing and compelled to finish。 I thought I had solved the case, but I was WAY off。 I give it 3-3。5 for the creepy factor of the actual murderer。 There were just some things in the book that I felt were unnecessary and didn't add anything to the mystery or the story, as well。 Overall, I liked the book, and I'm interested in reading the next one, just to see where the author goes with the characters。 I give this 4 stars for the fact that the story kept me guessing and compelled to finish。 I thought I had solved the case, but I was WAY off。 I give it 3-3。5 for the creepy factor of the actual murderer。 There were just some things in the book that I felt were unnecessary and didn't add anything to the mystery or the story, as well。 Overall, I liked the book, and I'm interested in reading the next one, just to see where the author goes with the characters。 。。。more

I fell in love with this story。 While I was reading I had so many thoughts and theories that, like Pip, I really didn’t know who did it。 I just couldn’t put it down once I started it, and I can’t wait to read the next book!

Holy cow it has been a long time since I’ve read a murder mystery book as artfully plotted out as this one。 While there were a few minor bumps in terms of plot, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel。First off, Pip is an amazing character。 She is quirky, sometimes annoying, but overall, she is real。 Not real in terms of “based on a true story” real, but real in the way that she has been so carefully developed, so wonderfully drawn out that there is no way the reader could ever think of her as anything Holy cow it has been a long time since I’ve read a murder mystery book as artfully plotted out as this one。 While there were a few minor bumps in terms of plot, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel。First off, Pip is an amazing character。 She is quirky, sometimes annoying, but overall, she is real。 Not real in terms of “based on a true story” real, but real in the way that she has been so carefully developed, so wonderfully drawn out that there is no way the reader could ever think of her as anything other than real。Second, this plot will have you spinning。 Spinning in the mind-numbingly complex way。 It is so intricate that I remember thinking back to earlier parts in the novel and having that “aha” moment when something I thought was irrelevant tied together。My verdict is that this is the perfect novel for those of us who love murder mysteries (I’m raising my hand very high), and even for those who don’t particularly like that genre。 It is such a well-crafted novel with wonderful characters that it would make any true reader fall in love。 I’ve read a lot of murder mysteries in YA and I do think that this one has become my favorite。 Thank you, Holly Jackson for delivering this gem to the world。Favorite quote: "‘You have cast her as your beautiful victim and willfully overlook the other layers of her character, because they don’t comfortably fit your narrative。’” 。。。more

The plot just kept thickening and thickening and I loved it。

I read the Americanized version of this book。 Not only the location setting, but also some phrases were adjusted to American English and I think it became much easier to read。 This is a YA mystery, but Pippu put herself in dangerous situations too much。 I thought it was a little convenient that she did not get involved in a serious injury or troubles。 Police could not solve this mystery, which is a big shame。 Young Pippu is much cleverer than them。 lol

Kate

I really loved this book。 It had a lot of high action and plot twists。

To describe this book simply, pure adrenaline。 There were moments where I'm scared shitless for Pippa。 Gosh she's smart, calculative and way too reckless for me。 But as someone who is a hardcore True Crime addict, isn't she the embodiment of what we secretly want to be? I do agree that some reviewer's said the clues are all a bit too coincidental, as in they fit too nicely together。 However, I like that it's one breadcrumb that leads to the other。 There's no giant leap from one evidence to anoth To describe this book simply, pure adrenaline。 There were moments where I'm scared shitless for Pippa。 Gosh she's smart, calculative and way too reckless for me。 But as someone who is a hardcore True Crime addict, isn't she the embodiment of what we secretly want to be? You ever pick up a book because it seems like everyone under the sun loves it and gives it 5 stars? I was SO excited to finally read this book and knew I'd love it。 I love thrillers and mysteries, so of course this book sounded perfect for me。 So imagine my disappointment when I kept picking up A Good Girl's Guide to Murder and thinking, Is this the same book? Why oh why does Goodreads keep leading me astray with these over-hyped, overrated books? WELCOME TO MY RANT REVIEW。The Implausibili You ever pick up a book because it seems like everyone under the sun loves it and gives it 5 stars? I was SO excited to finally read this book and knew I'd love it。 I love thrillers and mysteries, so of course this book sounded perfect for me。 So imagine my disappointment when I kept picking up A Good Girl's Guide to Murder and thinking, Is this the same book? Why oh why does Goodreads keep leading me astray with these over-hyped, overrated books? WELCOME TO MY RANT REVIEW。The Implausibility By far the worst part of this book is how implausible it is。 First of all, you're telling me her school approved INVESTIGATING A MURDER as her senior capstone project? Second, all these people are wayyy too willing to answer probing and incriminating questions from a teenage sleuth。 I know other people have issues with a teenager being more adept at investigating than trained professionals, but I'm willing to suspend my disbelief in some cases。 Like Veronica Mars or a Kara Thomas book。 If you are unable to suspend your disbelief about this, you should avoid this book altogether。Pip blackmails people, catfishes them, and breaks into someone's house。 And then she writes about all of it for her senior capstone project!! The thing she's going to submit to her school! SHE ADMITS TO BREAKING INTO A PERSON'S HOUSE。 ON A SCHOOL ASSIGNMENT。Where is the logic in this story? Point to it for me。 I'll wait。Character SoupThere were sooo many characters in this book that they were hard to keep track of。 It didn't help that almost every single character is flat and forgettable。 The only vaguely interesting and memorable characters were Ravi and Pip's dad。 That's it。 Out of the DOZENS of characters in this book。 I couldn't tell you a single personality trait of Pip's best friend。 I barely remember her name。 This also doesn't serve the story well for the final reveals and twists。 The villain(s) in this story are not foreshadowed well at all, so the twists at the end aren't satisfying。 Zero Character GrowthRelated, there was no character growth in any of the characters。 Pip remains the same from start to finish。 She seems to have the slightest inkling when she thinks that she doesn't know who she is when she's not working, but 。。。 that's it。 She thinks that once or twice and I'm still waiting for a character arc。 Also, Pip as a main character kind of drove me crazy at times。 She reminded me of a John Green character。 Painfully "quirky" with weird quips like in this exchange:"Canopy," Pip corrected her。"Do you want me to hurt you?""Ca-nope-y。"Wtf?White Savior TropeI'm honestly surprised this has slipped by the YA community, which is known for latching onto concerns of "problematic" content。 Yet this book revolves around a white main character clearing the name of an Indian boy named Sal and making life better for his family after they've been punished and outcast by the community for their son's alleged crime。 All this poor brown family needed was a white teenage girl to come in and save the day。 🙃Another thing。 Pip complains about people placing Andie on a pedestal and talking highly about her just because she's dead。 However, Pip has zero issue with doing the same to Sal。 It's okay if he's praised to saint levels and neither her nor his family or friends dare breathe a bad word about him, but with Andie that's unacceptable? The Does-This-Even-Count-as-a-Romance "Romance"So there were some super vague hints that Ravi and Pip were maybe developing romantic feelings for each other。 I'm all for a slow burn and I like Ravi, so I was here for it。 Then in THE LAST CHAPTER we get this line: (view spoiler)["He kissed her, and she glowed with the feeling。" (hide spoiler)]ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Is that IT? The culmination of that relationship building FOR AN ENTIRE GODDAMN BOOK and that's what you give us? The EndingAs if the story wasn't already unrealistic enough, the ending took the implausibly to new levels。 The villain (view spoiler)[holds her dog hostage。 Her DOG。 (hide spoiler)] and OF COURSE (view spoiler)[the dog dies。 AUTHORS。 I AM BEGGING YOU。 STOP KILLING OFF THE DOGS。 (hide spoiler)]Then Pip makes the incredibly stupid decision to (view spoiler)[go to the villain's house alone。 (hide spoiler)] TWICE。 SHE DOES THIS SHIT TWICE。 Why oh why do authors need their characters to act like idiots to make their books work? Write better。She literally (view spoiler)[confronts two killers (hide spoiler)] and of course there are the unrealistic villain monologues to follow in which they all too willingly divulge why they did their evil acts。 Another trope in thrillers I haaate。 Somehow (view spoiler)[Andie's younger sister was able to drag and LIFT her sister's DEAD BODY into the trunk of a car? I'm sorry, how?? (hide spoiler)]The WritingFor the most part, I liked the writing。 There were way, WAY too many semicolons。 So many I got flashbacks to SJM books with all those em dashes and ellipses。 *shudder* Some British-isms snuck through (why don't British authors just keep their books set in their countries instead of trying and failing to write a book set in America??)。 Pip kept referring to days of the week as "The Thursday," "The Sunday," etc which annoyed the hell out of me。 Ravi's skin was described as "oaken-hued。" Which 。。。 what?I'm giving this 2 stars because while I have many complaints, there were parts of this story I liked and found enjoyable/entertaining enough to keep reading。 The theme of being wrongfully accused, and like I said, the writing was competent for the most part。 Plus, I don't actually like giving 1 star ratings to books and try to reserve a 1 star for books I really truly despise and would actually prefer to give negative stars。 So A Good Girl's Guide to Murder gets a (generous) 2 stars from me。["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]> 。。。more

Wow。 Seems to me I’m on a streak of books that I just can’t put down。 I finished this one out of sheer will despite my eyes trying to close themselves。 I simply NEEDED to know how it would end。 Jackson has created a carefully convoluted mystery。。。that no matter how you try to jump ahead and plot out a plausible resolution to the disappearance of a teen girl and apparent suicide of a teen boy。。。。well, you’re always wrong! And the actual whodunnit is waaaaay juicier than one could have anticipated Wow。 Seems to me I’m on a streak of books that I just can’t put down。 I finished this one out of sheer will despite my eyes trying to close themselves。 I simply NEEDED to know how it would end。 Jackson has created a carefully convoluted mystery。。。that no matter how you try to jump ahead and plot out a plausible resolution to the disappearance of a teen girl and apparent suicide of a teen boy。。。。well, you’re always wrong! And the actual whodunnit is waaaaay juicier than one could have anticipated! Our narrator is a teen girl in her senior year of high school, Pippa。 She’s decided to do her capstone project on solving a murder from 5 years earlier。 And boy, what a project she uncovers。 One that adds peril and tragedy to many around her as more and more secrets are uncovered。 Pippa is a great narrator, with a strong and tenacious personality。 I definitely liked her! Ravi is another character we get to know rather well and is the younger brother of the teen boy who died。 I thought he was really quite humorous and added a lot to the narrative。The plot was juicy。 It’s a murder investigation set up as a senior high school student’s capstone project。 That’s quite unique, in my opinion, and Jackson definitely wrote it well! There’s a lot of twists and turns that keep you guessing as the story progresses。。。right up to the last few pages where all the loose ends get tied up and we have our grand reveal。 It’s a page turner no doubt about it! 。。。more

Wow, I could not put this book down。 I listened to it on audio and the production with all the different voices was incredible。 Very dark and realistic。 I found the portrayal of the high school teen-agers while slightly cringey, mostly accurate。 I also really appreciated the reality of people dealing with trauma and things like grief。 The entire party scene of the kids。。。 Very accurate。 All in all, a stark reality of what can really happen with dangerous people anywhere。
